Blinds - Hout? Aluminium ? Slat or Shade?

Posted by admin On July - 13 - 2009

Window blind refers to various, and yet specific varieties of window coverings.  Traditionally Blinds ( Houten Jalozieen)  were slatted, a horizontally adjustable, kind of, step ladder design..  Today, this slatted style continues to be one of the most popular choices.  More commonly used  materials for horizontals, is metal and vinyl.  The term ‘Venetian Blind’, in reference to these horizontal blinds, was patented way back in 1769.  By a man named Edward Beran, but they were actually something the Japanese had already, long before invented.  Hence, wooden Blinds( Houten Jalozieen)  , as designed by the Japanese are the most original.  Today, these are simply referred to as wooden, or bamboo Blinds ( Houten Jalozieen).  With metal and plastic modern styles being referred to under ’Beran’s’ patented name, of ‘Venetian’.  Regardless of material, each horizontal slat of the blind is interconnected by a string system, which allows the slats to be rotated, around 170degrees.  Therefore, the slats can be opened and shut to give more, or less, privacy and shade to any room. Operation is simple, and being easily adjustable, they are perfect for humid rooms, for instance, bathrooms.  Venetians are a highly popular and a manufactured in an amazing array of colours.

Venetian Blinds ( Houten Jalozieen) are the traditional choice, but vertical slat styles, known as ’Persians’, are also available, and popular.  Vertical blinds also have an interconnected string system, allowing the slats to be rotated up to ninety degrees.  Meaning, like the Venetians, they’re very ‘controllable’, therefore, very practical.  Like horizontals, you will also find theses easily available in plastic and metal, often aluminium. Vertical Blinds( Houten Jalozieen)  are manufactured in wood, but they are also available in a very durable, stiffened, coated fabric. Both horizontal and verticals can be gathered away from the window, leaving the entire window clear, and allowing full sunlight into the room.  Verticals usually have the added feature of being able to be drawn and gathered into several sections also.  As with horizontals, the slats themselves can be adjusted, using a very easy rod and track system.  Between the two, vertical Blinds ( Houten Jalozieen), Persians, do tend to be just that touch more efficient.  Primarily, because the slats on a vertical blind are wider, they also overlap, whereas on a horizontal they do not.

If privacy is an issue for you, vertical blinds might well be the better option.  Although a ‘mini’ or ‘micro’ horizontal blind, is a solution for bathrooms, or any rooms where privacy is important.  A micro blind can have a slat as small as 12mm, a mini blind being around double that, 25mm.  You will find the words ‘window blind’ being used somewhat generically these days.  But the main two ’categories’ are slat and solid, which simply refers to the way the blind is opened.  Solid designs - often referred to as ‘Shades’, can only be raised and lowered, they have no slats, therefore adjusting the light and vision is not so controllable.  Whichever you choose, Blinds ( Houten Jalozieen)  are a window dressing which not only add style to the home, they are also extremely practical.

Take Correct Measurements For Your Shutters

Posted by admin On January - 20 - 2009

Regarding order shutters for your home or office, you have to be very cautious while taking the correct dimensions for your shutters. If you do not provide the right dimensions for the shutters, you will not be able to obtain that total finish that you desire to achieve for your windows. This is more important if you are selecting  made to measure shutters. In this case, it is important for you to understand that shutter manufactures make shutters on the basis of the dimensions you provide them. If you have not finished this accurately, you cannot charge the company for the imperfect effect. If you send the shutters back to have them altered ( not always possible) , you will only end up spending more money than really required. In brief, if you do not know how to take the right size for the shutters, it can prove to be a very pricey affair for you. ask the retailer for help - it may cost a few extra bucks but it is worth it.

When it comes to taking sizes, you should know that the procedure varies depending upon the type of the shutters as they are positioned and fit in differently. For instance, if you want to take the sizes for the internal shutters, you will have to remember that these shutters (jaloezieen) may be mounted within the day. This means they open within the window recess or the wall opening.  Therefore, ensure that while you are taking the sizes, you should also think of the depth of clearance for the window. For those who do not know about the depth of clearance, this is the minimum depth from the open window that the shutters require to work easily without any interference. This all depends on the type of frame that is choosen or the depth of the louvers.

You have to be very cautious while taking the size of the height and breadth and clearance.  In reality, in order to evade the chance of error, you are strongly suggested to take more than two sizes, horizontally as well as vertically. Our recomendation is to measure every 12 meter and make a small mock drawing to monitor the sizes as you go. In the day use the smallest recorded size, on the day use the largest recorded size.

A good rule of thumb is to measure top right to bottom left, record the measurement and then measure top left to bottom right and record the size. This will tell you if your window is square enugh to accept a shutter. More than 2 cm difference between the 2 measurements then shutters will not fit without a lot of altering the frames.

This way, you will also be able to find out the exact angle computation. In comparison to the external shutters, the internal shutters are easier to calculate as the external ones need extra hang strips as with frame strips.

You also have to be very cautious while choosing the right kind of measurement tape. The fabric tapes will frequently provide you with misleading results. That is the cause why you are always suggested to use steel tape so as to ensure the correct size.
